Sights On The Walk

This is a wonderful walk that celebrates my favourite Central London pubs. They all specialise in Craft Beer, have helpful staff and most provide good value pub food. The walk starts at Euston and winds through Fitzrovia Soho, Theatre Land, Trafalgar Square, and Covent Garden. Enjoy!

A) Euston Square Station
Exit the station following the Euston Station signs. Turn left onto Euston Road. Pass Euston Station (you could start here) and you will come to two Victorian gate lodges next to a war memorial and a small bus station.

B) Euston Tap
These two bars are located inside the Western and Eastern gate lodges outside Euston railway. These lodges make up one of four gatehouses that flanked a ceremonial arch into Euston Station. The arch and the lodges were built in 1839. On the sides of the lodges are the destinations that were served by Euston Station at that time.

Unfortunately, in the early 1960s, the arch and two of the lodges were demolished. Today, the two remaining lodges have become a Mecca for craft beer and traditional cider lovers. There is seating on the second floor. Check the website for the current beers and ciders. Some are very reasonably priced.

C) The Draft House, 43 Goodge St, Fitzrovia.
On the corner of Goodge St and Charlotte St. I am always very impressed by how knowledgeable the staff in this small pub are. They clearly love their jobs and are happy to chat and recommend the perfect beer for you. Whenever I have been in this pub they have always had a great value, quality beer on special offer. The food is also recommended. http://www.drafthouse.co.uk

D) BrewDog Soho, Poland Street, Soho
This hugely popular Scottish brewer makes great beers. This pub also serves guest beers from around the world. Brewdog Soho offers a combination of great beer, helpful staff and good pub food.

E) The Lyric, Great Windmill Street.
This is a lovely little Victorian pub with a fine selection of beers. It’s in the heart of theatre land and a stone’s throw from Piccadilly Circus. There is a dining room upstairs and the meals are recommended and reasonably priced.

F) Trafalgar Square
Go past the National Gallery and head for the church, St Martins In The Fields. Cross the road and turn left.

G) The Harp, Chandos Place.
If you want to get away from the crowds of Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden, this traditional pub is an oasis of calm. There are no video games, no canned music, no TV, just great beer and friendly staff. The food is recommended. This pub has won many awards including the prestigious National Pub Of The Year.

H) The Craft Beer Co. Covent Garden, High Holborn.
The Craft Beer Co. Covent Garden boasts the largest tap selection in the UK. The staff are knowledgeable and they are happy to recommend a beer to suit your preferences. If it’s crowded (it’s very popular) don’t be put off, you can usually find a table downstairs.
